Building Rwandan Agriculture from the soil up

We build agricultural adaptation and resilience to climate change by offering a climate smart solution that increases harvests and increases mitigation through soil biodiversity regeneration.

SERVICES

Introducing Kumera Green, a visionary Rwandan company bringing microbial technology to Rwanda for the first time.

01

Increased Harvest

A single litre of our concentrated solution makes 500 litres fertiliser which has proven to increase harvest between 45 and 146%.

02

Adaptation and Resilience to Climate Change

Our Life Organic Biofertiliser is a microbial concentrate that catalyses the growth of microbial biomass in soil. These act as glue that holds the soil together, reducing soil erosion. Additionally, the increased microbial life in the soil prevents extreme temperature fluctuations caused by climate change, thus protecting crops in times of heat stress.

03

Restoration of Soil Fertility of Degraded Land

Our microbes act as tiny fertiliser producers - the more the diverse microbes in the soil, the more fertile the soil becomes. We have developed a system of using the microbes in tandem with other integrated methods to restore land that is degraded through the overuse of inorganic fertilisers and poor agricultural practice.

04

Transformation from Subsistence to Small Scale Commercial Farming

We have already transformed the lives of many Rwandan farmers simply by increasing their harvests so that they have a surplus that they can sell. Our mission is to replicate this success across all 30 districts in Rwanda.

05

Research and Development

We have already seen how our microbes work as probiotics for livestock and poultry and are in the process of arranging Rwanda Agriculture Board to complete independent trials for additional certification

ABOUT

All about
Kumera Green

At Kumera Green, we are driven by a vision of financial prosperity for smallholder farmers. We know that the first step towards this to to ensure food security and then, to ensure that harvests exceed what is required for domestic consumption. We have already transformed the lives of many Rwandan subsistence farmers in this way - they began selling their extra harvest and new doors began opening.

It is not only harvest and extra income for the smallholder farmer that drives us. We recognise the all too real impact of climate change with many parts of Rwanda now fragile. Our premise is very very simple - we add microbes to the soil and they multiply this creating living ecosystems that are self fertilising. Our product also ensures that the microbes have lots of nutrients that are beneficial and get passed on to the plants.

We have seen farms using our microbes become more flood and drought proof. Microbes create pathways in the soil and this drainage system prevents flooding. In addition, microbes are largely made up of water and the more microbes in the soil, the more water there is in the soil. Thus, because of the microbes, the soil doesn't get very hot or very cold - a result of climate change across the world.

We know that Rwandan farmers struggle to buy high quality inputs. We therefore created an innovative model through our partnerships with microfinance institutions and Farm service Centres. The model its simple - we create an enabling environment so that all farmers, irrespective of their financial situation, can receive the fertiliser before the planting season and then pay after harvest.

In addition, we create agribusiness opportunities for women and youth through our reseller programme. Almost any woman or youth can be a part time employee for Kumera Green selling our fertiliser in there neighbourhoods.

APPROACH

Our goal is twofold. We transform the lives of smallscale subsistence farmers  into smallscale commercial farmers. We also build adaptation and resilience to climate change by building more resilient soils.

The Kumera Green brand is synonymous with quality and regenerative agriculture. We build stronger durable soils to keep farmers producing healthier more abundant crops year after year, harvest after harvest.
